How To Re-Grout Your Tiles

June 9, 2015 How To Re-Grout Your Tiles

If your tile grout is starting to discolour or mildew is starting to appear, it might be time to think about re-grouting. So, how to re-grout your tiles? Areas such as bathrooms and kitchen splashbacks are exposed to moisture and other damaging elements which can make grout joints deteriorate sooner than other areas. So, how can you go about re-grouting? Here are tips you should follow.

  1. Don’t Leave It Too Long

If you find that the grout is crumbling or mildew is developing, it’s best to address issues as soon as possible. Postponing it may cause the problem to get bigger and worse still, it may cause more serious water damage beneath the surface.

  1. Clean It Up

Before re-grouting an area, make sure it’s wiped free of any soap scum and dirt that may be sitting on and around your tiles.

  1. Removing Grout

As you cut away the grout, keep a vacuum cleaner handy so that you can remove everything from between the tiles. Once it’s removed, wash the entire area with a mix of warm water and vinegar and then let it dry.

  1. Make It Last Longer

The performance of the grout can be enhanced by the use of grout additive. Grout Cure, manufactured by Davco is an acrylic based additive which increases the flexibility and bond strength of cement based grouts. It also makes grout joints water resistant which is perfect for bathroom tiles.

  1. For The Best Outcome

Seal the joints once they are dry. SureSeal impregnating grout sealer makes grout joints even more water resistant, promising a longer life for your new grout.
