Travertine, like limestone, is a form of sedimentary rock. It has been used in building and construction throughout the centuries. Travertine tiles have long been a popular choice among designers, architects, and home builders. Why? Because of the unique and timeless look of travertine tiles. At Tile Factory Outlet, we have a wide range of quality travertine tiles available at outlet prices. In addition, our team are trained to give you the best advice when choosing travertine tiles for your home. To make your decision easy, see 5 reasons why you should buy travertine tiles at TFO.
1. Travertine Tiles – Are Unique!
The top reason to buy travertine tiles is because of the uniqueness of the stone. Being a natural stone, each piece varies in density, veining, texture, and colour. It is a popular choice for all areas of the home. It can be used in bathrooms, kitchens, living spaces, outdoor BBQ areas, pool areas and even facades. Travertine is quarried and cut into specific sizes. Each piece has pit holes and troughs on the surface. Travertine’s colour ranges from white to many shades of cream and silver. You can even get dark grey to coral red. Also, travertine tiles come in a huge range of surface finishes, thicknesses, and sizes, including the popular French pattern. Bull nosing is also available and is ideal for use around swimming pools and steps.
2. Tiles Travertine – The Look & Feel
Travertine feels great underfoot. This is because they are cool to touch in the summer. Whilst in winter they do not get as cold as other types of stone. As a result, it can give a beautiful earthy, antique feel to any area of your home. For example, consider a Tuscan style alfresco area extending into the pool surrounds together with bull nosing for the pool edge. Compared to other stones such as marble or granite, travertine is softer and more brittle. Because of the natural holes and troughs in the stone, many varieties are “filled”. This means that some sort of grout powder or epoxy is used to fill the holes. As mentioned previously the most popular finish is :
- Unfilled & Tumbled – perfect for use externally, alfresco areas, patios, steps, pathways & swimming pool surrounds and edging.
3. Travertine Tiles – Longevity
A testament to travertine’s durability and longevity stands today in Rome – the ancient Colosseum. Built between 70-80 AD it is still standing. Travertine is durable and truly long-lasting. Unlike man-made products, will transcend time. Overall, travertine is a classical timeless option.
However, travertine is one of the most porous materials in the natural stone family. Travertine needs special care to maintain its beauty and durability. Because it is a very porous stone, you should not use acids and harsh chemicals when cleaning. We also recommend sealing so that maintenance is kept to a minimum. This results in a surface that will not only look beautiful but will also last for many years. For more information regarding sealing, click here to find out more about travertine sealers.
4. Use Travertine Tiles In Your Home To Add Value
Natural stone tiles add value to any project. Especially travertine tiles which are in high demand in Sydney. They create a look of opulence and luxury. In fact, using travertine is an investment. Due to its resistant qualities, you can use stone flooring to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. We at TFO make your choice easy as our prices are well below the prices of retail stores.
Along with all the various products we offer at TFO, we also carry the very popular silver travertine. Silver travertine tiles contain a stunning mix of light and medium silver and brown coloured tiles. This material is widely used outdoors and occasionally indoors. Unfilled and tumbled silver travertine has natural holes in the surface, adding texture to the finish.
This also offers high slip resistance and durability. The tumbled edges of the tiles give a time worn, rustic appearance. Also, its natural colour variation hides marks very effectively.

We have a travertine floor in our kitchen, and would like to know if you have any infomation on how best to clean the floor prior to sealing it?
Hi there, travertine is a beautiful product, good choice on your flooring! You can use a diluted dish washing liquid or just steam clean the floor prior to sealing it.
How much per meter do you charge for the french pattern in silver travertine ?
Hi there, we currently have FRENCH PATTERN CHISELED SILVER TRAVERTINE for $55sqm inclusive of GST.
Dear Michael
I’m sorry we can’t get that.
I can get same tile in other sizes but in that size there was only 22m2 available in all of Australia and at $60m2 its not cheap.
The problem is Iran’s shipments must all be unpacked in Singapore due to U.N laws.
We have stock of Turkish travertine at nearly half that price and its better looking but not in 500×500. They have American sizes like 457×457 and 610×610. If you wish those we are happy to sell them for you.
I’m sorry we can’t get 26m2 of the exact tile and size you want .
Hi,
I have previously purchased travertine from tfo. Approx 5 years ago I purchased approx 300m2 of 500 x500 16mm travertine tiles, H colour. I was looking to purchase about 26 m2 of the same product to match. Would you be able to get some of this product, or do you know who may be able to?
Thanks
I would like some tiles for a pool edge. Is it called Coping or bullnose. Natural stone would be best. Its a rectangular shaped pool but with curved edges and it is fiberglass with a 5cm lip. Do you have anything that would suit? We live in the country.
Yes we have coping and bullnose tiles available at our warehouse. Our sales team will email you shortly and provide more helpful information. Customers visit us from the country because they know its worth the drive to save thousands and you can take them home on the day.
Hi,
i am after app 300m2 of light / white travertine internal main area tile.
also need approx 140m2 of tumbled suitable for outdoor use.
will also need app 180m2 of tiles for bathroom and laundry – not sure if will go travertine or something that will go suit
Hi Andrew,
One of our sales consultants will email you shortly and provide you with any help or information you need. These quantities are available at our warehouse however we do receive many orders like yours and if you plan on tiling soon, I do suggest visiting us while the stock lasts. We can re order most stock if we run out but it is subject to our suppliers so we offer a “hold” period of up to 1 month free of charge to help our customers with storage until they are ready to tile.
We are wanting to tile our balcony which is uncovered and 62m2. Have seen French Pattern Tumbled Travertine which we like.
Could you please advise the difference between your Stock Code 8248 @ $45m2 and Travertine Paver/French Pattern/Country Light/Unfilled tumbled @ $60m2?? Also Stock Code 8249 @ $36m2?
Thanking you.
You will find with travertine that while it may look similar, no two are the same. The french patterns in question, are from different quarries and each have their own shading, patterns and textures, which make them unique. the biggest difference between the two are: travertine french pattern #8249 is unfilled and the travertine french pattern #8248 is filled. hope this helps.
this is the first time I have heard of these tiles, how do you lay them? on sand as you would pavers or on a bed of concrete, is there some where on the Gold Coast where I can view these. thankyou Peter
thanks for your enquiry Peter. Travertine tiles are natural stone and depending on your area, they can be laid on many different surface beds. Your tiler can determine which one would be suitable for your area. I dont know of any places in Queensland who sell travertine as we are the only TFO- Tile Factory Outlet in Australia. While we are located in Smithfield, NSW- we have many interstate customers like yourself who purchase a sample at our online store http://www.tfo.com.au and then place the order over the phone. Our sales consultants have a list of couriers who can transport the tiles right to your door and you will find the cost of our travertine considerably a lot less than other retailers and organising freight to pick up and deliver will actually work out a lot cheaper for you. its worth the call (02) 9892 4833.
A query please. How porous is travertine if used for internal flooring?
Thanks, Julie B
all natural stones including travertine are porous products and can be used as a floor and wall tile. There are sealants out on the market such as Sureseal which will help solve your worries. Speak to your tiler or visit us instore for a demonstration.
